Siraz Golden Restaurant: The Ultimate Destination for Mughlai Lovers in Kolkata
- by Dr. P. S. Chowdhury & Debarati Chakraborty
There are plenty of multi-cuisine restaurants scattered here and there throughout Kolkata! Besides Indian and Chinese dishes, most of them also serve Mughlai dishes, though not authentically prepared in many cases. And that is why in recent times, pure Mughlai restaurants are getting more and more popular in the city of joy! Result, a huge increase in the number of different franchisee branches in recent times, from the houses of Mughlai delicacies! Still, there are some highly nostalgic and old restaurants, who are in the limelight till now due to their authentic and delicious servings! Siraz Golden Restaurant, situated near Mullick Bazaar crossing, is just like a king among them!
On the evening of 24th November, 2016, Thursday, our target for food haunting was this nostalgic place! After a short drive through AJC Bose Road when we arrived here, the time was around 8 PM. Luck was in our favour, so we got a nice parking space too, just besides the street behind this restaurant! The interior of the restaurant is well maintained and decorated with nice sofas and tables, and operated by a team of nice behaving staffs.
The first set of order from us was a couple of butter nun along with a dish of Mutton Brain Masala. For those who are familiar with only Biriyani of Siraz, we will strongly recommend the different Mughlai side dishes served here! Because only after experiencing these dishes, you will understand the royal grandeur of this restaurant!
Butter Nun |
The butter nun served here is very unique when compared with most of the other restaurants! It comes to your plate right from the oven, with nice golden & crispy look! The size is also a little bit bigger so think twice before pre-ordering more than one per person. Taste is just beyond appreciation!
Mutton Brain Masala |
The mutton brain masala was also very delicious and unique in taste. It's a perfect match for tandoori roti or nun. You will get a number of good pieces of mutton brain cooked in a spicy and thick gravy.
Mutton Pasinda |
The next dish we ordered was mutton pasinda. This one is a very familiar dish for most of the Mughlai lovers. However, if you have it in Siraz, you will be delighted with the unique aroma of the preparation, along with a burst of taste in your mouth! Plenty of boneless mutton pieces come in this preparation, cooked in a rich and spicy gravy. The taste of this item is also a great match for Biriyani lovers.
Firni |
The obvious desert for us after this splendid food experience, was firni! Served in a traditional clay pot, it was just the unique show stopper for us! Softness was just perfect alongside a perfect blend of sweetness.
How to reach: From Sealdah, follow the AJC Bose Road up to Mullick Bazar crossing. The restaurant is situated at the left after you take a left turn from here.
